Privacy Policy
Effective 9 October 2026
This policy explains how the Controlo Android app ("the app"), developed by Vinay Maurya ("I", "me"), handles information. Controlo is a remote control for Samsung Smart TVs that works over your home Wi-Fi.
In short
- The app has no accounts and no sign-in, and it doesn't send your data to any server of mine.
- Your TVs, pairing details and settings are stored only on your phone.
- Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which uses your device's advertising ID. Premium removes ads.
- Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play. I never see your payment details.
1. Information stored on your phone
To control your TV, the app keeps the following on your device only:
- Saved TVs: each TV's name, model, local IP address and network (MAC) address, used to reconnect and to turn the TV on over Wi-Fi.
- Pairing token: the key your TV gives the app when you select Allow, stored encrypted with the Android Keystore.
- Settings: your preferences, such as theme, vibration, the apps on your remote and the sleep timer.
- Premium status: whether you have Premium, so it keeps working offline.
This information never leaves your phone except to communicate with your own TV on your local network. It is deleted when you forget a TV in the app, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app.
2. Your local network and TV
The app searches your Wi-Fi network for Samsung TVs and talks to them directly, on your local network, to send remote-control keys, text, app launches and power commands. This traffic goes between your phone and your TV; it is not sent to the internet by the app.
3. Microphone and voice search
When you tap the microphone, the app asks your phone's speech recognition service (usually Google's) to turn your speech into text. Your voice is handled by that service under its own privacy policy. The app receives only the resulting text, which it sends to your TV's text box. The app does not record or store audio.
4. Screen casting
Casting only starts when you choose it and confirm Android's screen-sharing prompt, and you can stop it at any time.
- On Samsung phones, casting opens Samsung's Smart View, and on some other phones it opens the phone's own casting feature. Those features are run by the phone maker under their own policies.
- Otherwise, the app captures your screen and streams it directly to your TV over your local Wi-Fi network. The stream is not sent to the internet and is not recorded or stored.
5. Notifications
With your permission, the app shows notifications, for example when your TV asks for text, while a sleep timer is running, or while you are casting. Notifications are created on your phone; no notification data is sent anywhere by the app.
6. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads. Where the law requires it, such as in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time in the app under Settings > Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. Premium turns ads off.

7. App configuration (Firebase Remote Config)
The app uses Google Firebase Remote Config to adjust settings without an update, such as whether ads are shown in your country. Firebase receives an app instance identifier, the app version and basic device information such as country and language. See the Firebase privacy information.
8. Purchases and subscriptions (Google Play)
Premium is sold through Google Play, as a yearly subscription with a free trial or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Google Play handles payment, billing, renewals and cancellations. The app receives only the information it needs to confirm your purchase, such as which product you bought and whether it is active. I never receive your card or payment details. See the Google Privacy Policy.
9. What I don't do
- I don't operate servers that collect your data, and the app has no analytics or tracking of my own.
- I don't sell your personal information.
- I don't access your contacts, photos, files or location.
10. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact me and I will help.
11. Security
Pairing tokens are encrypted on your phone with the Android Keystore. Because the app talks to your TV over your own network, keep your Wi-Fi secured with a password.
12. Your choices
- Forget a TV in the app at any time, or clear the app's data or uninstall it to remove everything stored on your phone.
- Change ad consent in Settings > Ad privacy choices where available, or remove ads with Premium.
- Turn off the microphone or notification permissions in your phone's settings; the rest of the app keeps working.
13. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
