Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to the Controlo Android app ("the app"), developed by Vinay Maurya ("I", "me"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. The app

Controlo lets you control a Samsung Smart TV from your Android phone over your home Wi-Fi network. It is designed for Samsung Smart TVs running Tizen OS, which covers most Samsung smart TVs from 2016 onwards. It does not work with other TV brands or with older Samsung models.

Because TV models, software versions, apps and networks differ, I can't guarantee that every feature works with every TV, every TV app or every network. Some features depend on your TV's settings, such as allowing the phone and enabling power-on over the network.

2. Not affiliated with Samsung or app providers

Controlo is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Samsung Electronics or by the providers of the apps it can open, such as Netflix, Prime Video or YouTube. All product names, logos and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used only to identify the apps and devices the remote works with.

3. Using the app

• Use the app only with TVs and networks you own or have permission to use.
• When you cast your screen, everything on it is shown on the TV. You are responsible for what you share, and for respecting the rights of others and the rules of the apps you cast.
• Don't use the app for anything unlawful, or try to interfere with, copy or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.

4. Free version and Premium

The free version includes the main remote controls and shows ads. Premium removes ads and unlocks extra features, which currently include screen casting, the TV sleep timer, the touchpad, opening every app from the remote, and choosing the apps on the remote. Features may change over time as the app is improved.

5. Yearly subscription and free trial

• Free trial: new subscribers can try Premium free for 3 days. The trial is available once per Google account, as decided by Google Play. You add a payment method in Google Play when you start it.
• Charging after the trial: unless you cancel before the trial ends, Google Play charges the yearly price shown before you subscribe when the trial ends.
• Automatic renewal: the subscription renews automatically every year at the then-current price until you cancel. Google Play notifies you of price increases as its rules require.
• Cancelling: you can cancel at any time in the Google Play Store app under Profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions, or from Settings > Manage subscription in the app. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged. If you cancel later, Premium stays active until the end of the year you have paid for, and is not renewed after that.
• Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. Please cancel in Google Play.

6. Lifetime purchase

The lifetime purchase is a one-time payment that unlocks Premium on the Google account used to buy it, for as long as the app is available, with no subscription and no renewals. "Lifetime" refers to the life of the app, not of a particular phone.

7. Payments, prices and refunds

All purchases are processed by Google Play under the Google Play Terms of Service. Prices are shown in the app and in Google Play before you buy, in your local currency, and may include taxes. Refunds are handled according to Google Play's refund policy. If you have a problem with a purchase, contact me and I'll do my best to help.

To get Premium on a new phone or after reinstalling, sign in with the same Google account and use Settings > Restore purchase.

8. Third-party services

The app relies on services provided by others, including Google Play, Google AdMob, Firebase, your phone's speech recognition service, Samsung Smart View and the apps installed on your TV. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and policies, and I'm not responsible for their availability or how they work.

9. Privacy

How the app handles information is described in the Privacy Policy.

10. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, I make no warranties, express or implied, including that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or compatible with your TV, phone or network.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, including loss of data or problems with your TV, phone or network. My total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.

12. Changes and ending use

I may update the app and these terms from time to time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and continuing to use the app after that means you accept them. You can stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it; remember to cancel any subscription in Google Play as well.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
